HI,
So how does the job market look like from the programmers stand-point !
Is it better than 2002-2003, same or worse?

Fixthebug,

Not sure where you are based, but in the UK where I am, just outside London, there seem to be a lot of low to mid range IT support jobs (hardware and system software) around, especially in public sector organisations/charities.
Development posts are still thin on the ground.

When the responses to the ads from the last couple of weeks start being processed, and (fingers crossed) I get invited.

UK public sector should really take off this year, deadline of end 2006 to get all services E-enabled, sudden realisation that this is unlikely to happen..... Total panic ensues.

However, a lot of the jobs will be contract work implementing e-forms, workflow solutions etc. which require programming abilities (probably specific training offered).

However this is just my, totally cynical, assessment and I could be completely wrong (unlikely, but possible!!)

since 2% of the jobs people get are from ads (as opposed to networking, etc.), I think Jeffrey Fox's book Don't Sent A Resume and Dick Bowles' book What Color Is Your Parachute might be useful activity guides to finding what you want...

my employer is simultaneously hiring and firing...
