Hi, one of our backups has just failed, though there is no information in the job log, and everything seems fine.

Is there somewhere else that I can look as to what the problem is.

The job is only 12 Gb for a 20/40 big fat tape.

any help would be greatly apreciated.

Check the event logs on the backup server.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Have you checked the actual text version of the job log? Sometimes they have more information in them.

I agree with the TravTrav. Check the Veritas job log again the errors will be indicated by by carrots (^^^^^) usually before and after the error message. It may not necessarily say error. Once you find the carrots go to Veritas website ( it will tell you what the error message means.

this is what I am saying, there doesn't appear to be anything in the job log, here it is, if anywone can point anything out I'd appreciate it:

The following line in the log:
Error. Can not backup directory \Server\PLAYER 2 and its subdirectories
May be the couse of the failure.

I'm having a simulare problem, getting a failed backup on skipped filles.

Exclude the \Server\PLAYER 2 and its subdirectories and see if the backup compleets

Have you checked the permissions on the directory that you are getting the error on? Make sure your services account or if you have a special backup exec account, make sure they are on the folder.

Anytime that Veritas has to skip or ignore a file it will return the job as FAILED. If it's skipping a file, first check permissions. Second check to see if the file is 'Open' - is it in use? If it's OPEN, you need to use OPEN FILE OPTION to back up the file.
