Job DB vs. Catalog

I don't quite understand the difference between the Job Database, and the Catalog. I thought the Activity Monitor was just a subset of the catalog, but the AM has a different query methods.

Can anyone elaborate?

The Job DB keeps has the jobs listed that ran and their status as well as currently running jobs. The Catolog DB is for the image database that tells you which file is on what tape and were it is located on that tape.

Does the catalog list a job's completion status?

No, it only holds completed backups/images.
