JNDI context without java:comp/env

Is there a way to access a datasource from the JNDI namespace
without having to go through the initial Context java:comp/env
the requirement is Tomcat4 and not any other server...
i know for a fact that such URL lookup is possible using JBoss and WebLogic...
however, if someone knows if this is possible using Tomcat, PLEASE.
