Please tell me what information you require to decrypt the password.

The information I can give you now is:

It's a Cisco 7204, Version 11.1 and the password is "enable secret 5 -cryptic_string_here-"

I have a rw community string if you can give me a Unix command line to simply change the secret password from a Sun station local on the network. Or whatever information required to decrypt the password from a tftp back-up of the current configurations would be EXTREMELY helpful!

If you have the secret 7 password, there are several utilities on the web that can *break* it just buy type in the characters or by cut and paste. Solarwinds.net has one and there are a few others. Since you have the ocnfige, you should have the secret 7 password :)

I have the secret 5 password, there is no secret 7 password. All the passwords that exist are...

console login: unencrypted

line con 0
line aux 0 exec-timeout 30 0
password **** (I splatted them out)
login
modem InOut
transport
input all
stopbits 1
line vty 0 4
password **** (I splatted these out as well)
login

And:

enable secret 5 **-cryptic_string-**

Thanks,

The program I have is for level 7. Did you try accessing the router through the aux port ? Jeter@LasVegas.com The best answer I could ever give is the one to maintain my Sanity

here is another idea.. if you have SNMP access.. do yo have WRITE access? if so.. edit the config file to turn off password encryption.. save it.. and then download the new version with the unecrypted passwords in the config file.
