Hello all. We have a computer in which has been heavily infected with netsky D and P variants, several Trojans, adware, spyware, diallers etc. That problem has been largely overcome, I think, but there is another problem which I do not see has anything to do with the virus effects, but am stumped as to what the cause might be.

The owner has a simulation program on there called 'EasyFly' which he uses to train folk in using radio-control planes so they don't crash their expensive models when it comes to the real thing.

The computer is a P3, 480Mhz. Win 98 SE. Graphics card is 3dFX Voodoo3 AGP,
When you are in the simulation, one scenario works ok, the plane rises quite smoothly and the rotors on a windfarm turn smoothly, so I think that is acceptable, but when you try to run the other two scenarios (grass and holiday), the whole thing is very jerky.

I tried going back to the original driver and tool set, and it was so jerky it was unusable, so that puzzles me as surely it ought to work as well now as it did previously.

He did say he thought it began 'playing up' after he re-installed Windows over the top a few months back, but I can't see any connection.

He is not the sort of person who 'fiddles' with graphics settings so I assume the default settings were always current, though I plan to fiddle around with that if all else fails.

Any ideas please?

If he's re-installed windows then it's likely that windows is using the default windows driver for the 3DFX card, which if I remember rightly doesn't have proper support for OpenGL.

I think you can download a driver pack that will include drivers for the 3DFX card from :-

Also check what version of DirectX as an overinstall could have reverted that to the windows default aswell.

thanks John, I will check the open GL driver site. It has got a later Voodoo3 driver - the original driver was even worse - but I will see what is there. I have updated DirectX to 8. Problem still there though it did seem a little improved I thought. Maybe wishful thinking!

Best regards,

Pete W.
