I have motherboard with an unfastened heatsink. The clip and one of its anchors are missing. In another thread it was suggested that I epoxy it on. I have some reservations about that because the heatsink is very large and the chip is very small, but I have decided to try it.

I have tried several computer stores, Radio Shack and an electronics store, and am unable to find a thermal adhesive locally. As an alternative to mail ordering an expensive computer expoxy/adhesive, could I use JB Kwik? I have googled a bit and I see some people suggesting that it works well.

While JB Weld holds an exalted place amongst auto mechanics, I would hold off on using a non-thermal conducting epoxy, and the metallic content of JB might short out your chipset if it oozes out. Steel is an electrical conductor, from JB's website:

One contains liquid steel/epoxy resin..., a chemical reaction occurs that turns the mixture into a compound as hard and tough as steel -- and with similar properties.

You also might actually be decreasing the thermal connection by using a standard epoxy. Arctic Silver makes a thermal adhesive paste:

That is intended for your use. There are others, and other stores ( if it means overnight shipping to get it to you ASAP it will still be cheaper than replacing your MB if the JB Kwik does not work.
