For my website I have an initial index.php page which has a javascript location thing that redirects the user to another index page within a directory. This is so we can do some manipulation on google/search engine information for when users fill in a form on this initial index page. Would this kind of thing knock a website down in rankings? Would using an meta refresh be a better way of doing this? I was just reading and it says about javascript redirects is all.

Thanks

Well the javascript redirect won't work with a search engine.
But if you have a regular text link on the page the SE will follow that.

You might want to try a META redirect, or better still use a 302 redirect issued server side.
302 is the code for the 'page has moved temporarily'

Thanks, how long would it take for google to look at the changes to my site and possibly change its ranking position?
