I have three different browser-based applications, and I've run into the conundrum where installing one breaks others. IE 6 now says that Java is not installed when I try to use a Web App that used to work on the same machine. Other than being careful not to access the conflicting apps on the same PC, and trying to get each app up to the most current release (in the hope that they'll use the same flavor of java), does anyone have any suggestions ? This is beginning to feel like a marketing push for VMware on the desktop !

I entered "Java" in Forum search, and found 12 of them, all seemingly dealing with very specific programming issues. I figured since my problem exists on the browser end, this forum might be more likely to produce answers.... Which Java forum do you recommend ?

I would look to the forum for the java you used in the app. If you used generic javascript you might take a look at what happens if you close the browser between apps as this should close all links held by the browser. I'm not much of a programmer and don't know just how this affects your email. Could you give us more detail?

I didn't write any of the apps - they're purchased apps, used in different departments.
One application that broke another used Java 1.3.1_03, but now has given me a link to the Java 2 platform, which links to a Sun web page. Don't know how I got Java 2, but it's giving me grief.
the application that got broken, and now causes IE to tell me that there is NO java installed, used 1.3.1.(from looking in the registry of the server where the ASP code runs).
It appears that if I could back out of Java 2, get the desktop back to 1.3.1, I might be OK.

Ouch/Ooops! Just noticed that somehow I put this thread in the XP Pro Email issues forum, when I meant to be in the Browser Issues for IT Professionals forum. sorry!
