I just had someone ask me the difference between Java and JavaScript. I have written a little JavaScript and know nothing about Java. Can someone please explain the difference. I will be conveying this information to a virtually non-technical user.
To add to phpPete's description Javascript exist in two flavors, client side (on your broswer) and server side which can communicate with Java Classes and thus the name for JavaScript.
Javascript is lately only seen in browsers where you want to have something done on the person's computer. A good example of something a programmer will want to do on a person's computer is verify the data they entered in a form. This can be done using javascript.
Once the data is verified the information can be sent to a server that could run a Java application to do something usefull with that information. Gary
