As one who has made a novice error in the past:
1. First decide if you want to learn Java Script
go to Netscape
or
2. Java Programming Language - go to the SUN site and download their JDK. It's free.
Personally I think they are both good languages and eventually you will probably have to learn both. But as a beginner, you should decide to learn one. JavaScript is easier.
