Hello,
my server doesnt support Java and i wanted to put up the following page, (if you load it you will get a blank screen but if you edit you will see the source) or see it below. is there any way i can get the spotlight effect without using java ? or can i stick the java on another server and somehow link it through ?

The code you posted is in javascript. JS has nothing to do with Java - just a case of marketing people latching onto the then passing bandwagon.

Furthermore, beit java or javascript, a moving spotlight thingy runs on the client, not the server, so it's irrelevant what your server supports.

Your problem is actually in this bit of code near the top:

The line highlighted in bold opens a comment which is not subsequently closed, so the whole page content is ignored (as it's a comment). Just put in a [tt]-->[/tt] on the line before [tt]</style>[/tt] and it should work OK.
