Java Slump

Read in the news that many s/w professionals in US working ion java platform are being removed as they say that the market for java is not good.
My question is that the slump is real stuff as their is no market for java OR it is the economy slump that is effecting developers OR it is the Microsoft plan to make their product .NET most successful....

Funny that, I answered a similar question in another forum that said that Microsoft programmers were being laid off as no new MSoft-based projects were being started....
