Java on NetBook?

My wife just got an HP Mini 2140 "netbook" (with Intel Atom 1.6 gHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, 128MB HD, etc.) and I went through the software installation (Windows 7 Starter version, HP drivers, Corel Office). I got her connected to the Internet via an Ethernet connection. I've since encountered several websites which display a warning that the system doesn't have Java installed, and so the website can't continue.

My assumption is that I just need to download and install regular Sun java, just like I do for all of the desktop PCs that I work on.

Has anyone had any experience with this situation?

Yes, that is exactly what you need to do. You only need JRE.

Yeah, just go to and it's got a tool you can use along with the download to install java, and then later verify you've got the latest installed, if you like.

I always Google "get java" and it takes you to where you need to be on the Sun site.

Thanks, guys! That is exactly what I did, and everything seems to be working fine!
