My father uses Win98 and has the latest version of IE6 installed on his system.

He likes to play some of the games at but they all run using Java. They used to work, but now, instead of the game he gets the dreaded white box with the little icon in the corner with the coloured triangles.

I tried playing other free games at from but they won't load either. I get an error message saying Java is not installed or is not working properly.

I followed a link to install Microsoft VM and installed it but no change. The options for running Java are turned on in his browser.

He thinks it stopped working after he installed some security updates. So, I tried uninstalling IE6 and reverting it back to IE5. No change. Java games still will not load!!!

I did go to the Sun website and downloaded their version of Java and it does work, however, his system is too slow to run the Sun Java version that gets installed.

I am completely baffled here. My system runs the games fine (Win2K with IE6). I've checked all the relevant options for Java in my web browser and our two systems are the same.

Does anyone know of a way to completely uninstall IE and reinstall it? My only guess is that Java is somehow corrupt on his system....

Thanks, I'll give it a try!

Also, it just occurred to me that I could also install Netscape on his system and see if that works....
