I get an IOExecption: Too many open files; after about 8 hours of running my thread. I have already destroyed all my processes and also closed the InputStream. Why am I getting this error and most importantly why everytime after about 8 hours of perfect running.

The IOException occurs during java.lang.UNIXProcess.forkAndExec.

Please Advise
Most appreciated.

It could perhaps be a bug in the JVM - Do you have the option of trying to run your process on a different machine or different OS or VM?
