Hi all,

This is my first post to the forum, probably one of many.

Where I work, we are in the process of training our developers (i'm one of them) in Java. We are a C++/Perl shop, and making the switch to Java/J2EE.

I'm the junior member of a project that is all about selecting a company-wide IDE Standard. So....

What do all of you guys use, and what do you feel are its strengths and weaknesses.

I've fiddled around with Visual Cafe, Forte and JBuilder.

Impressions:
Visual Cafe is very heavy duty. It's GUI code seems reasonable, 'code complete' is ok. Seems to handle beans, EJB's and JSP's ok.

Forte is pretty slick, a little slimmer than Cafe, 'code complete' is not bad and it doesn't clutter your System variables. The whole 'mounting' process is unique to Forte. Has trouble with JSP.

JBuilder (the pro version) seems .... amateurish. I'm not liking it as much, although its 'code complete' is the best. It also doesn't clutter your system variables.

I haven't used Visual Age, but suspect it's pretty heavy duty, because in school I used VA for C++.

I'm soliciting opinions from you all... What are your impressions of the products you use or have tried?

I realize there are forums that deal with all of the mentioned IDE's, but I'd like to hear from people on this forum regarding the IDE's, mostly because I can check this one forum, instead of three or four separate ones.

Ok, Thanks everyone.

We did the same process in r company!

Forte was automaticly iliminated b'cos of no professionel VS. JBuilder also b'cos we all hate Borland and suppose to have allot of bug in it. Visual Age and Visual Cafe are similar product (professionel). Good wizard tools, debugger and stuff like that. the prize matter also. Anyway are fianal choice was Visual Cafe. Webgain offer a really good services. I'm running VC on my 233 MgH laptop and it's fine!
