Java game application

I would like to know if it is possible to develop games with Java as in DirectX using C++. What is the best way to develop gams using java.

I am not talking about developing games as Java applets. I mean application games.
If it is possible, can n e one pls guide me on how to start game programming with java.

Hi,

Yes, you can develop games using Java Swing api. But I do not recommand spl. for client server games.

I have seen that some ppl use some APIs such as light weight java game library (lwjgl), jogl and stuff....are thse the same as java3d?...which ones are most widely used.
