Java error: BUILD FAILED

My company is trying to install a new ERP/CRM application called Compiere ( on a Linux 7.1 server. The application works on Oracle 9i which has already been installed. I have also installed Java SDK 1.3.1. When installing the Compiere application, I get the following error:

Setup Compiere Environment

Buildfile: build.xml

BUILD FAILED

Unable to load default ProjectHelper due to java.lang.NoClassDeffoundError: org/xml/sax/SAXException


I believe this has to do with Java / Oracle. Is this true? What can be done in a case like this?
