Java Applets don't open when accesssing secure network

I am currently using Windows 2000 version 5.00.2195. I have installed Java version j2re1.4.1_02 along with JAVA WEB Start. I have IE version 6.0.2800.1106 installed

My problem is when I attempt to access areas of a secure site, there are locations where the JAVA Applets return the error ....notinited.

Anyone have thoughts about why this is happening???
