Hi all!

I would like to make a Japanese version of my site, but have English Windows. I recieve the Japanese translation in Microsoft Word. I could not figure it out how to translate it to text and how to make that text readable by IE.
Do you know a japanese text editor what would work under English Windows? What would be a good way to create a page in HTML? I could do the page creating a gif images to be perfectly compatible, but that would make the page pretty large...

Hi,

Copy and paste the Japanese into your web site content area and add this meta tag:

<meta http-equiv=&quot;Content-Type&quot; content=&quot;text/html; charset=Shift_JIS&quot;>

Hope this helps!

Have you considered finding a friend who is Japanese and doing an exchange with them? You build a mirror-site for them that is in English in exchange for them building you a Japanese mirror-site?

That's how I would do it, but I'm lazy.

Cheers,

Thanks for the tips. Meta tags would be one step, but I do not know how to make a word file into a text file what builds a valid html file. Maybe I should have posted this to a Word forum...?
If I look at the source code and grab those weird characters form a Japanese page, save it how it is, it will show up a nice page afterwards, but I could not figure it out how I could edit in Japanese... A japanese text editor would probably help, but they all seemed to work only on a Japanese version of Windows...
I guess the best way is to ask my friend to convert her Word files into text and send it out that way... or? I am not relly sure what would work for me on an English platform. Anyone here have ever tried anything like that?

I used this in my Japanese page:
<META HTTP-EQUIV=&quot;Content-Type&quot; content=&quot;text/html; charset=iso-2022-jp&quot;>

With Japanese language support enabled in Windows XP, you can pretty much cut and paste Japanese text. If don't have XP or need to input text yourself, get JWP CE, a free Japanese word processor that works in English Windows. You can copy and paste text between JWP CE and your HTML editor, but make sure you use the correct clipboard export encoding. If not set correctly, you will get garbage.
