Japanese Characters (Kanji) to be displayed in Oracle Reports

Hi,

We are developing an Oracle Report where we need to display Japanese (Kanji) characters in the report header. The display is static and hence the Kanji script can be inserted as a label.
However when we copy paste the Kanji script on the report layout in a boiler plate text we see only question marks.
How do we resolve this?
Can someone help.

IMHO, for static output the best way is to display the labels as images. This way you avoid all the problems related to different application/web servers settings.

Your client-side (of Report Builder) NLS_LANG (its charset part) should support those characters. As well as OS.

I have just finished a prototype on a report which handles Japanese characters in Oracle reports.
Following is the list of steps I followed to get the said functionality.

1. Changed the settings for NLS_LANG parameter in the Windows registry. Used “JAPAN_JAPANESE.UTF8” character set which will support both the Japanese as well as English characters.
2. Took a sample report having Japanese text, as base to test the Japanese characters in reports.
3. However when I ran the report it gave an error saying “Boiler plate text is empty” referring to the label where I had displayed Japanese characters.
7. When I ran the report again it crashed. After that I am not able to open the report layout as it keeps crashing.

How do I overcome this problem?

Also is there any way where at runtime I can set the NLS_LANG parameter in reports without having to change the NLS_LANG parameter at the OS level?
