Janus Grids??

I have been contemplating using Janus GridEx 2000 in one of my fairly major database apps, but didn't want to buy the license w/o asking to see if any of you have any experience with this product. I like what I see from the trial version, and I like the user interface, but didn't know if any of you knew of any loopholes, or bugs, or anything. Please give me your experience with this grid, good or bad. TIA.

The only thing I have been asked to do with it that I can't is to highlight a set of cells with the mouse (used truegrid with a LOT of difficulty). It's just excellent, use it for all sorts of things now. Lokks very pretty so customers like it (those who care enough anyway). Can be slow if you try to display a lot of data. Thanks alot. What exactly did you mean, "I can't is to highlight a set of cells with the mouse"? What set of cells? You mean a whole column? row? Thanks for the feedback. I am having fair to good success experimenting w/the trial version. I like what I see so far. TIA for your continued interest.

No they wanted to highlight a selection of cells in a date column either by going click click click or by clicking one and dragging the mouse, and then set them all to a particular date by clicking a button. You can highlight cells in Janus by using cellstyle (which is lovely, you set a rule like this column will be in red if the value is negative and janus does the rest), but it only applies to cells you can see. My lot could highlight a lot of cells and scroll up and down and expect them still to be highlighted.
Grouping is good isn't it. Goes down well with users. Have you tried print preview. Easiest thing in the world. Peter Meachem

How about approaching the problem from the other direction. Does the Janus grid provide all the capability that you need? For that matter, are there other grids, at no cost, that also provide all the functionality you seek. Why pay for functionality that you're not going to use?

I have nothing against Janus, and am not trying to talk you out of it, but rather am asking if you need Janus to get the job done. Do you have to spend that money, or can you for the same development costs, get the job done with existing freely available grids? Good Luck

I reckon it was one of my best purchases. It works so well and does so much so easily that it saves me a lot of time and therefore money. I used to use truegrid instead. Much more limited and awkward to use.
I know you can do anything you want with a scroll bar and array of text boxes. It's just so much easier not to. Peter Meachem

I always say, "you can't have enough feedback". ;-) Anyway, I have done other projects with other grids, including true grid, and always seemed to have to fight with data controls, and what one grid did, the other didn't, and vise versa. I just wanted to know, before I got "in over my head", whether anyone knew of a blatant flaw. Thanks, Peter, for your input. I have not tried the print preview, but I have changed the recordsource, added and deleted columns, used the card view(very nice), and used printgrid. I like what I see, and it is very nice. (Plus, money is no object for my employer.) L8r, guys.
