Hi, yes JAI is one of the most confusing API's out there ! But damn good once you get into it.
Unfortunately I don;t know how to go from RGB to IHS, but the JAI archives at Sun are an excellant resource :
If you "Search the archives" on that link and type "IHS" it throws up loads of stuff about RGB to IHS.
