Jaggedy edges really bug me

I have a gif with a transparent background and I use CSS to change the background color on mouseover. The problem is the the gif was designed with a dark background and so when it shows up on the light background the edges are all jagged and rough looking and it looks terrible. Any idea how to get rid of these raggedy edges easily?

the only real way to do this is to manually delete the colors that comprise the outer jagged edges.
