Can one of you smart cabling techs give me the exact pinout of the RJ45 - 8 conductor jack for the older Merlin BIS phones. Also what pins carry power? 7&8 as is normal for Lucent? Does anyone have a diagram they have a link to - picture etc?

Thanks for the help!

Just use a straight thru ethernet cable - makes no difference what type. Just be consistent. The AT&T - thru Avaya preference is 568B coding scheme.

The wiring is all the same from the older phones to the newest - except that Magix phones only need a single pair - except for the operator - which needs two pair. Power is on 7 & 8.

The exception on power is Magix 4424LD+. Power is on 3 & 4 and comes from the seperate power supply module that you need for the display to operate.

on the BIS or 7300 Phone the pwr. is on pins 3 & 6 w/g g/w on 568 B, you can get a bis to work with 2 pairs Bl & OR pairs & a -48 VDC power unit on the green pair

OK - I may have been wrong on the power pair - but just use 568B wiring color-code. You cab Google it and get a diagram.

CVRBOB,

Can you resend that info with the typo errors?

Not sure what "2 pairs Bl & OR pairs & a -48 VDC power unit on the green pair" is susposed to represent in cabling terms.

Tom - not sure what you mean about using an ethernet cable. I'm not concerned about the connecting cable, just how the jack needs to be wired for the BIS phones - pair diagram etc.

Thanks

568B is the wiring scheme to use for standard CAT5e (4-pair) wire with RJ45 clips at both ends - it is basically the same as straight-thru ethernet cable. If you want - just grab a piece of pre-wired ethernet cable and plug one end in your phone - the other in the system - and you are all set.

Run a 4 pair cable. Cat 3 is fine, but Cat 5 or 6 is good too.

Terminate ALL 4 pairs on an 8 pin jack.

[tt]
Pin 1=White/Orange
Pin 2=Orange/White
Pin 3=White/Green
Pin 4=Blue/White
Pin 5=White/Blue
Pin 6=Green/White
Pin 7=White/Brown
Pin 8=Brown/White
[/tt]

If you get a Cat-5 "keystone" jack, follow the marking on the jack for "568-B"

had a few times we did not have enough pairs to make the phones work , what we did was tie down a 48 VDC power unit to the block to power the phone , the wb/bl pair was for talk , the wo/ow was button & lights , programed disabled voice announce to each station, still working to this date in a private prison

You can find this info on Table A-4 in section A, Wiring, of the Legend R1 Installation, Programming and Maintenance document. It shows ALL the sets with jack/plug pin assignments and color code, and lead designations. You can download the document from Avaya's website.

This makes a handy "cheat sheet" if you print a copy for reference!
