Whilst booting the printer it freezes at 64MB and a bunch of stars. The 128MB Upgrade should be here tomorrow. I pulled the eio hdd out and it loads in about 20 seconds, then obviously states HDD not found, scanning and sending disabled.

My question - is the HDD full? How can i clear it? Is the drive bad? How can i check? I cant boot with it in anymore so quite a conundrum!

Can i put in any other pcmcia card and it will work? is there boot files on it?

I think under warranty, but who wants do deal with hp support? and who registers their products! (i know, i know)

Thanks for any input!

I had a customer with the same problem last week. Had to replace the HDD J6054B. When this was completed the machine would not fax. The HDD holds part of the firmware for the printer. A firmware upgrade was needed. When I did this all was well with the printer.

Excellent!

I got a hold of HP Tech Support, and my warranty was active! They shipped out a new J6054B which i got yesterday and had to upgrade firmware just like you said!

Was wierd to upgrade firmware, ftp.printerip, drag into folder location, not the existing folder, then it sucked up the file, printer rebooted all by itself! Why cant other upgrades be that easy!

All my settings for the fax header and phone number were still in there tho, tech support said they'd be gone but werent! might have been stored on the xircom???

Thanks for letting me vent, was a frustrating issue, and now its searchable for others to find!
