I have six HP J2240 workstations, dual cpu, 1Gb ram, 9Gb drive, 10/100 lan. I'm trying to set them up with a fresh install of HPUX version 11.11

The lan is very slow, if I download files from a web site, it seems more like a dialup modem rather than a 100mbit lan. And if I download a large file (that should download in a minute or two), then it times out after downloading for a couple hours.

If I FTP to it from another computer, it is a bit faster, but nothing close to what I expect, but it does not time out.

I probably don't have all the information here that someome may need to help answer this, please ask for the information you need and I can provide it.

Hi Kent5r,

did you check, if your LAN connection is running Full_Duplex ?
On HPUX try lanscan/lanadmin.
And check the speed on your switches too.

Cheers,
Harry

The network lan speed problem was due to the NIC being set with autonegotiate=off which should have been set to ON. It is working fine now.

One other problem I was having, I couldn't get the desktop gui to start up, it kept saying that it wasn't installed properly or that the lan wasn't configured, then it would close and leave me at a text prompt. The problem was that the host name was to long. So by chance I changed the host name to a short name and now it works fine. I think the name needs to be 8 characters or less, but just guessing, I didn't exhaustively test it, but shorter does work.

Actually one more problem I was having, the display would blink on and off, on for about two seconds and off for one half second. Very anoying. Kind of thought it was the monitor not being able to sync but changing the monitor didn't fix it.

It turned out that on one machine I changed the keyboard and it quit blinking. On another one I changed the mouse and same thing, it quit blinking.
