On prem IP500v2 on R11 SP1 and J169's properly updated to R3.0.0.0.20, all on local LAN.

I'm having 2 issues with a customer site;

Randomly, The J169 will have no audio at all, not even system dial tone. Signalling still works and the call connects fine, just no audio. i.e. Call *17 no audio, call another extn no audio, call external, no audio. You can not even get system dial tone when going offhook. This is for the handset or speaker phone. Rebooting the phone will fix the issue. This is affecting multiple J169's randomly.

At times, randomly The J169 will be a bit slow to respond if not used for awhile, like a 2-3 sec delay. Like you will pick up or press any button and the phone ignores you for 2-3 secs and then suddenly catches up and whatever you pressed starts to happen on the phone. i.e. I press *17, the phone does nothing (like it's frozen) then suddenly dials *17 2 seconds later. After this delay happens the next time you use the phone, it's fine and behaves like normal.

(Our own office has these J1xxx phones on 11GA with the 2.0 firmware and I guess the delay is happening on those too, never had a no audio issue on our 11GA with 2.0 firmware on the j169's)

Any ideas? Anyone else having this? My first deployment of J169's and 11SP1 with 3.0.0.0.20 firmware and it's frustrating seeing these issues... :)

I have one J169 and i noticed this probably.
I thought it was network related. I have notime to check it soon.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I too have experienced the same issues as you have, delay in the dialing, none audio or dial tone on 11SP1 and J169/J179 on 3.0.0.0.20.

Looks like an Avaya issue rather then network.

Thanks

It is strange as it worked fine om a different port. But i disconnected it so can’t test soon

I get the delay in dialing on 11GA also for J169's on the 2.0 firmware randomly.

I should say this delay is really anything you try to do on the phone, not just dialing. Even hitting the right arrow key to view page 2 buttons, etc. It's like the phone went to sleep and takes a sec or 2 to wake up. Very annoying and random.

Same problem with the latest firmware for the j169/179 3.0.0.1.6

Has anybody raised a ticket with Avaya to have this investigated?

I'm about too and was also wondering if anybody else has?

any follow up to this? i just did my first deployment of J179's. 500v2 ver 11.0 sp1 with UCM.

I have noticed a few things:

-Incoming calls sometimes take a few seconds for audio to begin. I call a user and when they answer i have them count to 10. Most calls are ok but sometimes I do not hear anything until 3 or 4. This is not a problem for most users but high call volume like the receptionist has learned to wait a few seconds before saying hello. I have disabled auto gain control, no luck. I suppose there could be delay in the phone going off hook but I do not believe so. I think the call establishes immediately just no audio.

-Multiple users have complained that when they hang up a call with handset, a moment later the phone will activate the speaker phone and hear dial tone. I was not able to recreate, but more than one user complained.

-When user a tries to log into onex portal, plugin or webpage, some users received a message that their phone is not logged in. The only cure I have found is a reboot of OneX portal.

anyone know anything further on this? Is it just me?

My ticket with Avaya is still pending with no updates. We are sticking to the 11GA release for now.

For 11GA, I've noticed on the J169/179's, the first time an extn is logged to the J169, you may have a high probability of no audio, a reboot of the phone fixes it and it's fine after that, unless you craft in and log it out and change the extn number, you may get no audio until you reboot that phone again. It would appear logging in the extn the FIRST time borks it (not every time, but MOST times).

On the 11 SP1 with the 3.0 firmware, I'd get random no audio on certain J169's with no rhyme or reason. A reboot of the phone fixes it, but then it could happen again at any time.

The 2-3 sec delay thing happens on either release, but appeared to happen more on 11SP1 than on 11GA.

This is my experience with 3 separate installs of J169's/179's, all with dedicated voice vlans with 3 different manufacturer switches.

I've haven't messed with trying the 3.0.0.1.6 since Johnhyde said he had the same thing...

Anyone else care to comment? Ideas? Just want to vent?

We have deployed a site with J169 phones, and are having an issue where a 2nd call won't have any audio on any calls (from a different j169 phone). R11 SP1, 3.0.0.0.20 FW on the phones.
Nice to see these issues with a brand new phone that was supposed to replace the 9608 phones THANKS AVAYA.

Update from me, had to raise 3 SR with Avaya and each problem was separate and not linked.

No real update and Avaya think this is not a known issue, and they can't be bother to test this themselves, therefore i am now doing testing for them.
Had updated firmware for one of the issues reported for the J169/J179 and guess what, it actually made the problem worse! So bad that you could only made one phone call, then the phone would freeze/no response from any buttons. Reboot the phone and again could only make one phone call. Had to downgrade to ensure we could make calls.

I didn't think i would be working as a software tester for Avaya for free!!

Had this on the early releases of IPO/SIP.
Running Powered By Buld 23, and J Series SIp is 3.0.0.1.6

Been working fine for a month now...
