Just got a new J129 SIP phone and need to set it up to work in a VLAN DHCP environment. I have looked over the install manual and am not sure if it will follow the option 242 as does the 96xx phones. Does anyone know what to set for options to have tis phone get to the correct VLAN and pull the call server address and file server address like the 96xx phones.

1st of all, it's an e129 and do a search from this site as this has been discussed many times, also it used option 66 I believe for the dhcp scope

It may be a J129. they are new. its my understanding they are not supported on IPO yet.

Sorry the E129 was replaced by the J129 not sure if it is the same. I will check the forum for E129.

wow learn something new every day, thought it was a typo

No typo and they are working on the IPO as long as I use the IPO as the DHCP server but the customer wants to use their DHCP and has 45 of them and I don't want to static them.
Mike

no you are correct, I just googled it and they are a sip phone but can not find any info on the dhcp scope

I looked in the manual because I didn't want to get the RTFM response as would be expected. But scope option 66 is not even mentioned in the DHCP option section, go figure.
Mike

On the J129 you use Option 43 for this, see page 30 in Installing and Administering Avaya J129 IP Phone

DHCP vendor-specific option
You can set DHCP vendor-specific parameters by using DHCP option 43. The supported codes for
Option 43 and the corresponding parameters are as follows:
Code Parameter
1 Does not set any parameter. The value must be 6889.
2 HTTPSRVR
3 HTTPDIR
4 HTTPPORT
5 TLSSRVR
6 TLSDIR
7 TLSPORT
8 TLSSRVRID
9 L2Q
10 L2QVLAN
11 PHY1STAT
12 PHY2STAT
14 SIG
15 SIP_CONTROLLER_LIST

Following that even DHCP Option 242 with the same parameters used for 16xx and 96xx seems to work.

If the IPO as DHCP server works then it has to be 176 or 242 as these are the only ones that the IPO sends out

When using IPO it probably gets the HTTPSRVR from IPO and then gets the rest of the settings from the 46xxsettings.txt or some other settingsfile.

If you look at the above linked document it shows all Options that can be used pages 27-29 and 242 is listed.

Option 242
Specifies the site-specific option.

This option is optional. If you do not configure this
option, ensure that one of the following parameters is configured appropriately
elsewhere:
• HTTPSRVR
• TLSSRVR

Just an update on the install of these J129 phone. They will follow the same option 242 as the H323 phones. I have set up a number of them on 3 different networks and they worked with the same option string as the 9600 phones.

Did anyone have issues setting these up in regards to a SIP proxy?
