J100 series phone's Network (PC) port connecting to a random DHCP address

Hi all,
I ran this thread a while back now. Refer: thread940-1803195

Same issue but this time it's on a J169. The phone is talking to the network fine, I can ping inside and outside of the network using the Admin menu on the phone, however if I connect anything to the pc port it connects to a random DHCP address outside of the range I run.

As per the last instance, If I connect a 9611G the PC port works perfectly.

I have two VLANS - the phones are on VLAN 10 and Data is on VLAN 1. The phone is correctly set to VLAN 10 and is pulling an IP Address from this range. Other phones on the network are set up exactly the same with the phone on my 192.168.10.XXX range and the PC ethernet port using the 192.168.0.XX range. Normally works without an issue.

I just find it strange that this happens only now and then and only on the J100 series SIP phones. Is anyone starting to see this?

Hmm to add to this I have IP Phones J series and a 9641GS randomly rebooting...

I'm running the Avaya ERS3510GT-PWR+ switch - I must have missed something when configuring the device :-(

***Semi Resolved***

Background of VLANS:

VLAN 1 (Data) DHCP Range: 192.168.0.1XX - 192.168.0.199 (VLAN 1 IP Address: 192.168.0.11)- All customised options set
VLAN 10 (Voice) DHCP Range: 192.168.10.1XX - 192.168.10.199 (VLAN 10 IP Address: 192.168.10.1)- All customised options set
DHCP Relay: 192.168.10.1 to 192.168.0.0

Router/Modem Interface/Subnet 1: 192.168.0.1/ 255.255.255.0
Router/Modem Interface/Subnet 2: 192.168.10.2/ 255.255.255.0
DHCP disabled on the Router/Internet.

IP Office:
LAN 1 IP Address: 192.168.10.10
LAN 2: Not in use.

Route: 0.0.0.0/ 0.0.0.0/ 192.168.10.2
Route: 192.168.0.0/ 255.255.255.0/ 192.168.10.2 (This was previously in there so wasn't sure if it was still needed, so left it)


I've made some adjustments to VLAN settings, such as setting the default tag for the port for IP Office to the Voice VLAN 10. This alone has made a big improvement. Other than changing the IP Address of the IPO (Small inconvenience) to bring it into the VLAN 10 range, it's actually resolved the another issue i was having with call quality alarms.

The IP Office DHCP server is disabled and each of the VLANS 1 & 10 have their own DHCP Server. All I needed to do with the phones is do a full reset/clear and input the VLAN 10, then my option settings puts the phones on the VLAN 10 network and the network passthrough ethernet port hands out an IP Address from the Data VLAN 1. Also tested pinging from the Admin menu on the J179 and it's talking to the internet too.

Going to need to monitor for 24/48 hours to see if the random reboots cease but the random DHCP address which I first mentioned has gone for now, however I have fixed this previously only to see it come back.

Will report back if anything backfires!

I’ll check my settings tomorrow.
I do have the L2QVLAN=10 on option 242 for both of the Vlans. Initially when I tried this phones were still getting an IP Address from VLAN 1 but I’ll need to test that again.

Most of my phones are SIP now as I only have the one 9641GS on H323. I set the SIP server settings in for each dhcp option too but I’ll check again maybe I missed one.

As for the second suggestion I recall inputting a command line on the ERS3510 for LLDP but I’ll need to check that one tomorrow too.

I’m fairly new to the Networking side but I managed to put this all together following a guide from the older 2500 series switch. Felt like a challenge!

I've taken screenshots of both the Data & Voice VLAN DHCP options. I do have the L2qvlan input.

I also have these LLDP Settings:

-(config)#lldp vendor-specific avaya call-server 192.168.10.10

-(config)#lldp vendor-specific avaya file-server 192.168.10.10

I still can't work out why both SIP & H323 phones keep rebooting. I did notice on the H323 it said DHCP ACK ERROR....

Hi @derfloh!
Managed to get the LLDP MED settings working correctly - thanks again for that tip it's so handy.
Unfortunately all of my IP Phones are rebooting daily on their own and I can't work out why..

Guessing this is a Network issue. My DHCP lease time is 24 hours but I've never had a situation previously where devices simply reboot on their own like this...

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
