IWR Upfront Crashes

I operate a Cognos 7 MR2 installation on a Windows 2000 server. There are currently 300 plus reports published to Upfront that extract data from an Oracle database on a Unix platform. Upfront is accessed using five logins which are used by a large number of users over a WAN.
Over the last couple of days there have been a number of problems that I can't explain.
These are :- Reports showing in the Job database with a status of "Finishing" for upto a couple of hours before being cleared. Upfront "crashs" requiring services to be restarted with if required the iwr70job.db being recreated - nothing shows in Event viewer to hint at the cause - only error relate to IRWDISP. Reports that normally take seconds taking hours to run.
Anyone got any ideas where I can look to try and find any possible cause(s).
