Can anyone tell me if there are significant performance advantages to creating derived data, is this instance a date calculation, in the Data Warehouse as opposed to perfroming this calculation when the report is ran in Impromptu?

That all depends on what you are trying to accomplish, as well as what type of resources are available when the report runs.

Generally, the more data is precalculated, the faster your report will run. The danger here is ending up with a bunch of denormalized data in your warehouse.

The rule I generally us is as follows:
If the calculation is intensive, but it's used very often in reporting, and you have complete control over the warehouse, then precalculate. Otherwise, do the calculation in the report.

I am what I am based on the decisions I have made.
