I have a salesmen (Sales engineer) report that lists Vendor, Sales order number, and part number, etc. Salesman 33 can only see his orders and salesman 55 can only see his orders and so on. If one wants to see more detail on those 3 columns he can just click to see company addresses and other details.

This is working great on the client.

After publishing, the sales report bursts OK, but when I click on the drill down, it just runs forever and is stuck.

What could be wrong? I only have one suspicion, but don't know how to track some of it down completely. First, I will check the diretory path of the drilldown reports and make sure I didn't have them at a different location while testing. But how can I check the reportset and make sure the reports are staying together?

If I am totally off base as to the problem, please let me know what could be causing this.
Thanks,
Mary

On the client you have imr reports. And you can make a drillthru.

bursted reports are in PDF format and therefore there it is not possible to drill thru. correct me if i misunderstood your question

I did limited testing of drill-thru reports from a bursted PDF in version 7 about 8 months ago and they worked then.

Thanks for your input. Yes, Cognos said it can be done and both the burst report and drill down only need Read access.

I think there is a server problem, because I got the smallest report working on Thursday, but now it does not work again. Even when I logon as Administrator, I cannot rerun the report. The report just runs for hours and should take about 10 seconds.

Hopefully, the Server Administrator will look at it today.

Mary,

You jogged my memory. As I recall, to make it work I had to give the users modify report rights in their user-class. For some reason Impromptu read doing the drill-thru as a report modification. At the time Cognos said it was a bug they would fix at a later date. Can you confirm this is no longer required?

Dave,
In my testing, on my system, I find that I must have the drilldown with Read & Execute security. The main report can be Read only and burst. Cognos tells me that it should work when both are coded as Read. You have a good memory and I'll bet it is a bug.

As long as it works, I don't mind giving additional security of Execute on the drilldown, at least for now.

I must have a totally separate issue on the larger reports that I just published last week. They started out basically like the simple one, but have more calcs etc. I cannot run them as Admin, they just go into Never Never Land not to return. ((Sorry Michael :) )) I finally got the DBA to give me some time for a conference call with Cognos. Geeze, worse than pulling teeth.

Thanks again,
Mary

(fyi to chris, it can work and is pretty slick)
