I have been administering various PBX's over the last decade. We recently aquired a company which has an R6 Adix in place. The current MAC vendor is raping us on moves adds and changes. When I ask to purchase a few hours of training to gain some basic MAC knowledge, they are basically telling me I'll crash the PBX because it would be too complicated for anyone but them to possibly understand. Is this true? They also want to sell me a Segway unit for $2500 which they say will allow me to do "non-destructive" changes. I don't even know what a Segway is (other than that gyroscope unicycle thing for commuting on city sidewalks). Is it time for me to find a new vendor or should I just rip this Iwatsu out and replace with one the better know systems?

I agree. It's similar to a Toshiba, kind of. Anyway, it's programmable through the KT or it has a DOS programming interface or even a windows interface.
The Segway is an IP interface that uses the windows based programmer. You have to assign it an IP address give it access through the firewall.

All I want is dialup for a few changes once a month. The thing has to have a dialup modem attached already. Is the admin software something I need to buy seperate or should it have come with the PBX?

If it is a B2 cpu or above, it will support remote admin without additional components. The cpu will have an RJ 45 on it. A modem is required to be plugged from the modem to the cpu. Iwatsu provides what is called a "hood". A connector that connects onto the DB25 on the US robotics modem. Then an 8 conductor cord goes to the cpu. Remote Adix software is proprietary and not completely user friendly. But it is available and learnable, if you're familiar with telephone equipment.

I like the new PSUBMDN It plugs into an extra KT port and has on RJ45 connectors for the cpu and one for the vmi if you have it.Depending on the software ADIX or VMI it hooks up respectively no hoods just a line cord and two patch cords if you have the VMI.You should be able to pick one up for about 250.00.Sounds kind of high compared to a modem but if your system is on batteries it never goes down and I have only had to reset one once unlike my modems.A Segway is nice but I have found that most IT guys don't like giving you a hole in there fire wall to let you in from the out side so you still need your modem hooked to the Segway. As far as you Crashing your system you and your vendor should always have a back up.I have about 30% of my customer doing changes.Everyone of them has the full programer. If your taught right it should not be a problem!!You do know that if you think you getting the shaft by your current vendor you can call Iwatsu and and they will locate another dealer!!!!!They take it very serious!!!! good luck!!!!
