IVR login security announcement

I have a question on adding a security banner to the "issue" file when logging into a Conversant IVR.

First, I'm very novice unix user.

I'm having trouble editing the "issue" file in the etc directory using the VI editor.

Can someone explain the commands for VI or simple way to add a banner message when logging in.

in vi, press i to enter insert mode - you can now type what text you need. When ready press esc to get out of insert mode. x to delete a character, dd to delete a line. when ready type :wq! then enter.

But really, be careful what you do, perhaps a quick tutorial would be better for you.
