I seem to have lost my active directory, and thus my server has decided to be stupid. how does one restore their active directory? im very new to using server 2003 small business edition, so any help would be appreciated
West, why do you think you've lost your Active Directory?
How did you set up the server, and what was done to break it? Is there valuable data to be preserved? How many user accounts? How long was the server online (since first set up) before the AD was "lost"?

here is what happened. im very new to server. i set it up based on the default perameters that the wizard uses. so we have basic user templates and our server is used more as a place to save documents. we use the companyweb as a communications tool. we are trying to set up a VPN, and we switched our regular linksys router with a linksys VPN router. as i was configuring the router i changed the static ip of my server computer to match the router, and after that i lost everything. i then went back to my previous configuration, but i keep getting Messages about my active directory not being found. i cant access the directory menu on the administrative control panel, and my client computers cant see it either. if someone could suggest to me what info i need to put here so you can see my settings i will do it. im a novice, and i apologize for that. i can re-install and start over, but i don't want to.

Hi, please bare with me as I am a new user/subscriber to 'Tek-Tips-Forums'.
I was in search of an answer to my own domain server(SBS2003) problem that occured overnight last night when I found this thread.
This is very helpful to me as I am trying my best to accertain as to why and how my own 'Active Directory' and domain quite simnply 'died' overnight, and that I am trying to find out what happened.., but in short, I think I am facing a complete 'Domain/Server' re-install of SBS2003.
One question I would like to ask if I may?
This is not the first, and will not by any means be the last 'drastic/terminal' error that I have had to contend with whilst using Windows Small Business Server 2003..,
.. In your opinion, would you choose 'Windows Server 2003' over 'Windows SBS 2003'??
I would be very grateful of your opinion of SBS-2003 in brief.., as I for one have now lost all faith in SBS2003 and despair of any assistance in this from either this forum or even Microsoft themsleves.., this has and will always be an expensive lesson to share and to learn from.
Please do reply, as I would be grateful to know what you all think?
Best Regards,
adey2k.
