I've got a DNS problem that I hope you all can help me with.

Current domain is orginaldomain.com which has web, mail, ftp, ssh services running just fine.

We have decided to purchase another domain called newdomain.com and would like to 'alias' the new domain to that server.
So actually takes a browser to the same address as , and mail sent to somebody@newdomain.com goes through to somebody@original.com, same with ftp, etc.

Thanks for the help, I need it. :)

Set up the dns "A" record with the same ip as you original ip. Then set up the "MX" record for the new domain to show that the same mail server used my you original domain will be used by your new domain. Then in you httpd.conf file, you have to define both your original domain and new domain in as VirtualHosts. You will have to setup you mail server to handle virtual hosts.

Hi,

If you want identical content to be served up then you don't actually need apache virtual hosts (assuming you have none so far) - just point the two domains at the same IP address as explained by RhythmAce. If you set the ServerName in httpd.conf to the new domain then any self-referential url (i.e. one internally created by apache under certain circumstances) will be constructed with that as the server part.

Or you could do virtual hosts and redirect stuff for the old one to the new one (its all done in the apache httpd.conf file).

For sendmail have a look at this -->

Ftp shouldn't be any problem as long as the DNS is OK.

Regards

In the end I created a new zone for the new domain with all the apropriate entries, which got most services working.

This still bounced email though because it was trying to relay from the new to the old domain. That was easily fixed in my postfix setup with a virtual domain line.

Thanks for the help guys!
