When setting up guidelines in CS4, whenever I pull down a guideline, the Control Panel shows me the X and Y coordinates (plus the H and W specs), which allow me to position the guideline precisely.

But today, when I brought up AI, created a new page, viewed the rulers, and pulled down a guideline, the X and Y coordinates aren't displayed. When I look at all my Preference settings, I can't seem to find anything that might apply. I have my own workspaces, but I went back to the Essential workspace which is shipped with AICS4, and the problem still happens. I can't remember changing anything (of course, that doesn't mean I didn't and forgot) when I used AI last.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? I can work around the problem for a while by using the info in the Transform Panel, but having it available in the Control Panel is much more convenient.

Even more complicated -- now I can't even select and move guidelines ???

...firstly:

view > guides > lock guides needs to be off...

...second:

check the control bar top of screen, far right hand side, is a sub menu, in the list is transform...

...third:

you may have to try trashing the preferences file

That was it, Andrew! Somehow, I had "Lock Guides" on. Once I unchecked that, not only could I move the guides, but my coordinates magically appeared in he Control Panel again. Thanks very much!
