This is an iTunes question, but there is no iTunes forum, so I thought I'd try here. When I check task manager or process explorer, I see that iTunes loads iTunesHelper.exe, iPodService.exe, Bonjour.exe, and AppleMobileDevice.exe.

These programs take up 25MB of RAM. Okay, I know that's not much by today's standards, but is it really necessary to load these at boot? Can they be set so that they only start when I start iTunes? (Usually about once every two weeks).

Hi,
I have read many postings that say to remove Bonjour as it is a resource hog and can cause odd problems.

I see no reason not to disable all of those services ( unless you do a lot of copying of iTunes content to your iPod, the iPodService is pretty useless)

I Agree, remove them all from startup.

iTunes should take a bit longer to load since it's not staying resident in memory from startup.

If you're not happy with the results then re-add them to startup, either all at once or one at a time.

Most of them sound like Services, if they are set for "Automatic" as the Service Startup Type you could perhaps change the Startup Type to "Manual".

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to try the set the services to manual and see how it goes. Thanks again.
