I have a data file sorted by U.S. State (2 Letters) with a random number of records per state. Boss wants Each state output to a SEPERATE FILE. I would like to do this in one pass. (even down and dirty coding from whatever)

Thanks ... First, is the info in a database of a file (text) format?

Regardless of the present form/format you say " ... wants in seperate files by state ...". Does this refer (again) to database or file format?

Is this a "seperation" 9e.g. a permanant change to the way information is stored, or just a one time listing of the "information" for his/her use?

Thanks Mike, It was seperate file formats all the way thru
(no Data Bases) And One Time creation [ Of 50 files ] actually I was looking for more of and OS solution
but the specs have totally changed. Again.. Thanks

Sounds like your boss needs to get a copy of the "Software Project Survival Guide". :)
Steve
tribesaddict@swbell.net
