I am on 7.6.100 SQL.

We have over 10000 records in the Item Master file of which half are obsolete. Some of these have a qty. on hand in the item location file just so that you know I am aware of this.

I have been asked to remove the obsolete items from all modules including Inventory, Bill of Materials, Standard Costing, Std Prodcut Routing, etc., up to a certain time frame. Obviously, my selection criteria will include testing against the transaction files.

Can anyone please share their experience in doing this?
Thanks!

Scary. You will create all KINDS of havoc if you attempt to delete these records from the master files w/QOH in the location files.

This a major project & you should seek assistance from a Macola VAR who knows the files & how they interract w/each other. Many updates to files/inventory need to be done if you want to do it externally & testing would need to occur at each phase & we'd need to determine in what order to update the files.

If you elect to do this on your own & you have data corruption or programs give OPF as a result, you'll not have much luck getting Macola or VAR support & it will cost you far more in the end than having someone who has done something similar assist you/educate you beforehand.

Even if you mass delete, you still need to deal w/QOH issues for your curent products & any history in OE or IM related to these products.
