I had a Master page A that had a solid rule across the top with knock out type. It was decided since this was the inside front cover, the rule needed to come off of this page only (there's 99 other pages that need the rule). I successfully removed the rule (so I thought). It doesn't show up in any view, but when I print this page or export as a pdf, it shows up. I even made a new master page that was blank and applied the blank Master page - B to page 2. The bar still shows up, even though the little B appears on the page in the pages palatte. How can I get rid of this bar?
I know I can "cheat" by making a picture box, filling it with white and putting it on top of where the bar is, but I'd rather remove the bar so it doesn't cause any problems at the printer.

...the usual method is to 'override all master page items' on a selected page, you can then select the item created by the master from this selected page and delete or move it etc...

...sounds to me like you have set the page to do this so you could delete it?

...if it is overridden from the master and then apply a new master the objects from the master will still be there as the link is broken...

...the sure fire method is to remove local overrides and then apply a new master so that all previous master elements are replaced by the new master items, if any...

...also bear in mind that overlapping items from one page to another in the master pages may throw objects off a bit, if adjusted on the master and also independently adjusted on a page, does this bar overlap on your master pages?

Andrew

I did override the items manually and deleted them. I then applied a new master page that was blank. They don't show up on the page on my screen, but they are there when I export to a pdf or print. That's why I'm baffled.

The master page is built as a facing page. There is a bar that runs along the top of the left page an identical bar that runs along the top of the right page. They touch in the middle at the 0 pt.

...yes, very odd, is this CS2? i'd be happy to look at it for you if you wish?

Andrew

Unfortunately it's not CS2 -- it's just CS, version 3. And (to make matters worse) it's PC. It's my employer's and I'm actually leaving for the day. But if you'd still like to look at it, I can check back on Mon.
Thanks for the help.

...ok, it is possible to open CS in CS2, from CS2 I would have to save to a .inx (interchange format) for you to open it...

...this would, in all likelyhood, mean updating the links in the links palette and possibly the fonts too...

...your version on CS will need to be up to date (V3.01) for this to work:

...in interchange format the file size is reduced as the picture previews are removed, you end up with a tiny file...

you can post it here if you want to -
