We recently had someone using our server as an FTP site but I caught it pretty quickly. Whoever set-up the IIS server a couple years ago left the FTP site running and letting anonymous users on and since I've never had to use the FTP feature since i've been here I didn't notice this. Anyhow, that hole is fixed but I can't get the folders they created to delete. If you click to view them it says the folder .... does not exist. Please make sure the path and filename are correct. In addition if you try to delete them it gives you the cannot delete ...... Cannot find the specified folder.

When I try to take permission of the folder it cannot find the specified folders and when I try to reset the permissions it tells me that access is denied. Can anyone help with this? It's an NT 4.0 server, we have TS and Citrix 1.8 but not on the file server. Thanks

Hi
Try deleting it through DOS (prompt), try dir it first to see what the file is called. I think I had to use part of the name and wild card to address the file, and delete.
It worked for me, hope it does for you.
Good luck

I sort of tried that (tried deleting folders that way), problem is I can't see the files that are in the directories either. If I reset permissions (which it won't let me) I can see everything that's in them as it scrolls through but it never lets me actually reset the permissions to see them when I open the folder or it says the folder is not there.

Have you tried changing the attribute?
c:> cd to_that_dir
c:> attrib *.*
Mine, as I remember, came up with A (archive) so I did
c:> attrib -A *.*
c:> del *.*

They're probably listed as system files or hidden or read only. Try what tk36 suggested and reset the attributes. To be on the safe side, I would add -S -H -R. Then you should be able to see them through DOS.

Also, if you still don't have permissions, have you tried taking over the ownership of those directories? You need to be logged on as administrator to do this, but, it should clear up any security permissions that were put in place.

I tried doing that through DOS but that did not work, thanks for the tip though. I have taken ownership (sort of). I take ownership and then it goes through all of the files (you can see them when it does this) and it will say error taking ownership, cannot find the file, continue yes/no. It does this for every file and I've gone through them all hitting yes several times. Someone's bring me a utility program they have on Monday to give it a try but if I can figure it out before then that's cool too.

Thanks,
Tom
