Lately when I put a blank CD in the drive, it's not recognized at all, or I get an error message indicating I don't have the drivers for the CD burner. One of the USB ports on my keyboard has also stopped working, and I'm wondering if it also has lost the driver. How do I get them back? Is there a place on Apple's website for downloading replacement drivers?
TIA
Jill

USB ports can get overloaded and be deactivated. Normally a restart will bring them back again.

This happened to me recently when I plugged in a handy USB fan to keep cool through the summer. It worked for a while but then just overloaded the port.

As for teh CD drive. Is it a new drive? Are you using some software other than the built in OSX CD burning tools?

It's the built in drive in the iMac G5, and no I'm not using any other software for it. The CDs work in my husband's iMac G3.

Try inserting the software dvd that came with your G5 and see if it mounts. If it does, the drive itself is ok.

It's would probably be easiest to just do an "archive and install" of a new OS from your dvd for the G5. The driver probably got currupted on your hard drive. If you're not familiar with archive and Install just look it up on Mac help. It doesn't wipe any stuff off your hard drive, just install a new os and keeps an copy of your old one.

To check the usb slot on your keyboard, try a different device like another mouse. Sometimes it's not the plug, but the wire from the device. Occasionally I have the keyboard usb plug on my third party keyboard stop responding to my third party mouse, I just unplug and replug and all is well after that.
