I first saw this back in nineteen something, at the Great Lakes Developer Conference. Whil Hentzen was doing a presentation of weird error messages. I must try to remember some of the others.

That was Whil's User Hostile Interfaces session, I think.

My favorite error message (which we haven't seen much since competing memory management schemes went away) was always "Invalid Buffdirty".

I had this error when the user's pc had a different language setting

i removed that, and it fixed it.. after 2 weeks of googling/binging

Yes, that's right - User Hostile Interface.

He kindly gave me a copy if his PowerPoint presentation, which I've just found on an old drive. Sure enough, "Fatal Error 113 while attempting to report error 113" is there, as is "Fatal Error 62 while attempting to report an attempt to report error 62".

My favourite: "CANCEL or SUSPEND not allowed", with three buttons: Cancel, Suspend, Ignore.

A very subtle way to say "ignore me".

This type of error actually is among those without an error number (***) in the main help topic of all errors listed numerically (also in the list ordered alphabetical, but scattered across the whole list, of course): Fatal error nExpr reporting error nExpr.

It points to
Record your recent actions while using Visual FoxPro and then call Microsoft Support.
Should I call them? Just to say hello.

Bye, Olaf.
