Hi I am working on the improvement of soft skills in commuincation and speaking for my workplace. I would like to find out if anyone out there would know the best book or website I can learn from to better teach me to speak better and reply to email in proffessionally so that in particular scenario I have a reference on how to said or not to said it. How to Talk to Anyone: 92 Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships by Leil Lowndes

How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie

Both are well-written, easy, entertaining reads.

In addition to the good ideas above -

Check out your local community college for Business Communication classes as well as Public Speaking classes. These can be a good way tp learn what you want as well as practicing in front of other people.

Many of these classes are taught by business pros from the local area.

I have to second sleipnir214 on Toastmasters. Find a club near you and visit (or join). It has helped my verbal communication skills immeasurably over the years.

Agreed. Toastmasters has been a big help in my career. Before joining I hated public speaking. Now I don't think anything of getting up in front of a room full of strangers and giving a presentation for an hour or more.

I know it's not directly related, but the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" is a really good book. I got it on CD, and listened to it in my vehicle to and from work.

It can seriously change your perception of things around you, and give you a fresh outlook on your life, your co-workers, etc.

I'm trying to reach sleipnir214 re an 'aside' from 2/20/06 and the "scourge of the dismal swamp." The message came up from my google search for that quote. I'm unfamiliar with this website, but it seems to be my only chance to track down the book from which that was taken. Can you help? Thanks!

Sorry, but I have no idea of the name or author of the book in which I read that. That little rhyme got stuck in my head more than 30 years ago.
