Hi I have been dealing with my companies network, support and security for the last few years and am now moving into a prodomenently network/security role.

With this I'd like to become certified can anyone suggest the best place to start?
I've been reading about SCNP and CompTIA but where do I start and are these the right ones to start with.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards
Ian

You might want to start with SANS at sans.org - I have not been to one of their conferences, but their e-mail/snail-mail keeps me pretty well imformed about security matters on the net. Although nothing is cheap, I have not heard anything negative about thier courses (although they cost a few bucks). I would suggest you read as much as you can before the class so that 1) you become somewhat familiar with the terminology, and 2) that you do not get overwhelmed by the course instruction (all commercial classes tend to pack a lot (often too much) into too few hours)! I wish you good luck in getting your certification!

Don
