I am trying to create an IST between two 86010s with SMLT, and I have it configured and it appears to be working properly, however, under the MLTs, it shows "normalMLT" in the runningtype field for all of my MLTs. Under MLTtype, its selected as an IST or SMLT.

How can I get it to change to run as an IST or SMLT?

For the IST the session is enabled, but the sessionstatus remains down, and the PeerIP will not ping.

would this just have to do with the fact that I'm running version 3.3.3.0 code?

When you create an IST you start with an MLT.

When you create an IST on an MLT you need to point each switch to the other switches VLAN IP address.

After creating the IST you need to enable it.

Our 8600's running 3.3.0.0 and sho conf statements on one that create the IST on the MLT are ...

mlt 3 create
mlt 3 add ports 9/2,9/7,10/2,10/7
mlt 3 name "to PLC-S1 mlt1"
mlt 3 perform-tagging enable
mlt 3 ist create ip 172.23.2.4 vlan-id 1
mlt 3 ist enable

Thanks for the info.... I wasn't putting the other box's IP in for the PeerIP, I was putting the local IP for the trunk VLAN for each.

I guess that makes sense.. "PEER ip".... durp.
