Hi all, recently I set up a DLink DFL200 to allow PPTP VPN connections for a friend of mine. In the beginning everyhting worked fine, we were able to connect many, many times, RDP to computers on the network and work just like we were at the office. Recently, however, things changed. I can connect to the VPN, however I cannot do anything else, RDP, no PING, trace etc. Here is my ipconfig /all output:

PPP adapter Eric:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.123
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : y.y.y.y
x.x.x.x

The IP address looks to be out of the range that I set aside for the VPN address pool (192.168.100 - 199), however the 255.255.255.255 obviously isn't right and I have no default gateway. I thought that before instead of my adapter saying "PPP adapter Eric" it said "WAN Miniport PPTP adapter Eric". The connection into the office is Qwest DSL, I have configured the DSL router to forward PPTP to the DLink firewall and then the router authenticates the user. Nobody has touched anything config wise within the router or the firewall. I really do not understand what has happened. Thanks for any replies.

Assuming this is XP, the 255.255.255.255 subnet mask is OK. This is by design because XP is peer to peer VPN. What's the VPN IP?

This link may help,

Why my XP VPN client's subnet mask is 255.255.255.255 Why my XP VPN client's IP
is the same as default gateway IP Unable to contact a DHCP server - Event ID ...

thanks for your reply...I had no idea about the 255.255.255.255 addressing before, it is good to know...yes, this is connecting from XP, and the network layout looks like this:

Internet
|
|
|xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
DSL Modem
|192.168.0.1
|
|192.168.0.2
DLink DFL200
|192.168.1.1
|
|192.168.1.2-200 via DHCP
Internal Network

when i look at attached devices i can see users logged in but they cannot get anywhere.
